The
OnCall
license agreement lets you build one schedule and publish
it at amion.com. If you intend to share the responsibility of editing
your schedule with other people, please read this FAQ carefully so that you avoid overwriting
your colleagues' hard work!
All editing is done
in the OnCall software. You may download and
install OnCall on any computer used
for editing your schedule. If you have more than one scheduler, you will need to
coordinate your scheduling so that you always work on
the most up-to-date schedule file.
We recommend that you
use the checkout system and always maintain
the most recent schedule at the web site. If you follow this system you
will always open your schedule from amion and publish it back again when
you are finished editing. The checkout system is also a good option for
when an individual scheduler needs to edit from different locations or
machines (e.g. at work, at home or on a laptop).
Another option is to
save the schedule file on a network drive. To ensure that users are not editing the
file simultaneously, each scheduler must turn
on the File-lock security option in OnCall.
Open OnCall. Go to the File menu and choose
Preferences. Under the System topic, make sure File-lock security
is checked. The setting is specific to each person who uses the
software and so all people who edit the schedule should make sure the
option is enabled. If
two or more people open the same
schedule file from a shared network folder, OnCall will issue a warning
if another person has the file open and is making changes.
One other option for an individual
scheduler who is not sharing the file with anyone else, but who needs to
work on different computers, is to put the entire OnCall folder
(software and all) onto a flash drive to do some scheduling without
having to install OnCall.
